It gives me great pleasure in providing
you with a summary of RPIC’s 2010 key activities and
our priorities for 2011, a year to build on the current momentum
generated by key national and regional activities.
|
2010 brought us a focus
on the change management agenda with a view to gain better operating
efficiency and effectiveness. As a result, RPIC revised its governance
structure to establish an Executive Board and a Board of Directors;
revisions to the Institute’s by-laws; realignment of the
financial charter of accounts; and development of a 5-year business
plan which will articulate RPIC’s strategic direction charting
the Institute’s course of the growth and sustainability of
its federal property professionals and supporting community of
practice. The business plan will take into account rapidly changing
social, economical, environmental and technological forces affecting
our profession and work environment.
RPIC’s major challenges
include strengthening and building a sustainable community by identifying
and engaging as many real
property professionals as possible in the federal government; providing
the most current learning and knowledge certification opportunities;
establishing a professional image and brand; and using a variety
of mainstream and Web 2.0 technologies to enhance meaningful communication,
sharing, participation and networking in our growing community.
In
moving forward, much effort will focus on the release of the 5-year
business plan; hosting regional workshop events on federal
contaminated sites in Kingston, Ontario and investment planning
and project management in Vancouver, British Columbia as well as
hosting our Real Property National Workshop at the new Ottawa Convention
Centre; and re-tooling our website to further develop the branding
of RPIC.
Following a very successful Federal Contaminated
Sites National Workshop in Montreal and our flagship event, the
Real
Property
National Workshop in Toronto, I would like to congratulate our
organizing committees for putting on such great events. Building
on its success and generating such momentum, RPIC will be embracing
future opportunities in hosting its national and regional events
across the country. Many thanks to Tara Dinsmore and Sébastien
Yelle for their leadership in these events.
I would like to recognize
the dedication and commitment of our outgoing Directors, Daniel
Leclair of Public Works and Government
Services Canada and Krishna Sahay of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
A special thank you to Scott Stevenson, Assistant Deputy Minister,
Infrastructure and Environment, National Defence, our 2010 ADM
Champion for RPIC, for his immense contribution and leveraging
public service renewal in the real property context.
Welcome to
our new Directors, Simon Bernier, Public Works and Government Services
Canada; Ted Dobbie; Defence Construction Canada and Franklin
Hortforster, MHPM Project Leaders, as well as to Alain P. Séguin,
Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, Royal Canadian Mounted
Police, as RPIC’s 2011 ADM Champion. For the complete 2011
Slate of Officers, please go to www.rpic-ibic.ca/en/institute/governance/current_bod.shtml.
Lastly, since federal departments are recognized
for their involvement in RPIC through their Management Accountability
Framework (MAF)
assessment, participating on the Board, on a Workshop organizing
committee, or other board activities, I invite you to get involved
in the Institute’s activities. By doing so, your department
or agency is recognized for its effort.
