PURPOSE

The objective of the Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop Committee is to provide a biennial forum for networking and the exchange of information among federal public servants and private sector environmental remediation specialists engaged in the management of federal contaminated sites. The Committee will normally be co-chaired by a member of the RPIC Board of Directors who will be responsible for overall program coordination and liaison with the Board of Directors and a representative of the federal environmental remediation community who will be responsible for the technical aspects of the program.

OBJECTIVES

The Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop Committee shall:

  • Determine the current needs, as identified by the members of the federal contaminated sites community, for both the Professional Development Day and the National Workshop;
  • Encourage the development of a more effective federal environmental remediation and management program through the delivery of a strong and relevant program at the National Workshop; and,
  • Provide delegates with:
    • A forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences with both public and private sector organizations involved in environment remediation;
    • An opportunity to learn about scientific, engineering and other innovations in the field of environmental remediation; and,
    • The opportunity to meet and network with representatives of federal, provincial, municipal government as well representatives of Canadian and international environmental remediation firms.

RELATIONSHIP TO OTHER COMMITTEES

The Committee reports to the President. The Committee works closely with the Community Development and Outreach Program, the Professional Development Definition Program and the Fundraising Committee. The Committee receives assistance from the Executive Secretary.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Committee strives to fulfill its mandate through the following activities:

  • Develop and manage a work plan for the biennial National Workshop as approved by the Board of Directors complete with scope, budget, timelines, key outcomes and monthly updates;
  • Strike a committee that may include RPIC Board Directors, federal employees and/or private sector or student volunteers who have an interest in the field of environmental remediation;
  • The Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop Co-Chairs will assume the strategic direction of the planning of the annual national workshop and serve as a liaison with the RPIC Board of Directors for all workshop updates and Board approvals; and
  • The Committee Co-Chairs will lead in the planning and staging of the biennial Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop, including the professional development day and a sessions and complementary activities of the national workshop itself. Length and format of the workshop shall be determined for each workshop and approved by the Board of Directors.

SECRETARIAT

The Willow Group will be responsible to support the biennial Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop Committee, including the following:

  • Develop and maintain a workshop budget and critical path;
  • Manage all logistical requirements, including facility, food and beverage, audio visual, simultaneous interpretation, gala dinner facility, transportation, entertainment;
  • Manage promotional requirements, including pre-press production, translation and graphic design for distribution via print, e-mail and web;
  • Liaise and contract with speakers, such as confirming their participation, obtaining a/v needs, obtaining presentations, expenses, special requirements;
  • Manage the Tradeshow including development of a sales kit, solicitation and selling of exhibit space and sponsorship opportunities, coordinating staging requirements, ensuring that exhibitors and sponsors are satisfied;
  • Manage the registration of delegates including all financial aspects (create a registration dbase, issue an invoice, confirmation or receipt to registrants, produce registration reports as required, produce financial reports as required, produce names tags;
  • Manage on-site needs, including volunteers; and,
  • Any other such duties as shall be required from time to time.
