| Managing
and Delivering Your Real Property Investments – Getting
it Right
June 14-15, 2011
Marriott Vancouver Pinnacle Downtown, Vancouver, British Columbia
Building on the success of regional events
held in Halifax in 2009 and more recently in Calgary in June
2010, The Real Property Institute of Canada (RPIC) is pleased
to continue its important regional initiative with a workshop
on Investment Planning and Project Management, scheduled for
June 14-15, 2011 in Vancouver, B.C.
The new policies on Investment
Planning and the Management of Projects were approved by the
Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat
(TBS) in June 2007 for the purpose of providing a more comprehensive
approach to long-term investment planning for both assets and
acquired services, and ensuring that appropriate systems, processes
and controls for managing projects are in place within departments
and agencies to support the achievement of program outcomes,
while limiting risk to stakeholders and taxpayers.
Since the
introduction of the new policies, over 50 federal government
departments and agencies, including four (4) departments
who
agreed to participate as pilots at the outset of the implementation
and transition phase, either have approved investment plans
or are in the final challenge and TB submission phases. This
leaves
approximately 40 departments and agencies remaining to complete
investment plans during the fourth and final year of the
phased implementation strategy.
This full two-day, all plenary
regional workshop event will include the best of presentations
from the policy makers
to the investment
planners to the practitioners and project managers who
turn real property plans into reality. In addition there will
be venues
for networking with not only federal colleagues but also
provincial, municipal and private sector real property
planning
and project
execution experts.
Come and hear feedback and insights from
some of the early adopters as well as from TBS in terms of
what has worked
well, what didn’t
work as well, and what improvements have been made to
the implementation strategy to enable future departments
to
transition to the new
policies.
Through a combination of informative and
interactive presentations, case studies and panel discussions,
hear
about lessons
learned, and how challenges to and opportunities for
improving elements
of the investment planning framework and organizational
planning and resourcing capacity are being met. Speakers
will further
share innovative ways to leverage the capacity and
knowledge of both internal government resources as well as those
in the private sector where appropriate.
The first day
will focus on real property investment planning, while attention
will shift to project management
on the
final day, with opportunities for all-important networking
with
colleagues and peers.
Be sure to mark your calendar
for this important event!
