The 2010 Regional Workshop of the Real
Property Institute of Canada (RPIC) will be held June 22-23,
2010 at the Coast Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre, Calgary,
Alberta.
The overall theme for this Workshop will
be “Modernizing Canadian Laboratories – A Sustainable
Future for Science and Technology”.
Workshop Objectives
Recognizing the essential role that laboratories play in the realization
of Canada’s Science and Technology Strategy and the overall well-being
of Canada’s economy and its citizens, this Workshop will be an
opportunity for anyone involved in the scientific sector to have access
to and share world-class knowledge and best practices, expertise and
solutions related to laboratory design, operation and management.
The Workshop will offer a venue to meet
and exchange new ideas and information with colleagues and industry
representatives from across the country.
Presentations
The Regional Workshop Organizing Committee is seeking presentations from
both the public and private sectors and invites you to submit abstracts
encouraged towards, but not limited to, the following suggested topics
related to laboratories:
- Planning and Program Challenges
- Sustainability and Flexibility in Design
- Innovative Financing Models
- Regulatory or Policy Considerations
- Technical Innovations
- Energy Management Strategies and Technologies
- Laboratory Operation and Maintenance
- Case Studies/Success Stories
Deadline
for submission of abstracts has been extended to April 23,
2010.
Your abstract should include the following
information:
- The title or subject of the presentation;
- A brief description (100 words or less) of its contents;
- Type of presentation (individual or panel);
- Benefits of the presentation for the delegates;
- A brief explanation as to why your presentation is relevant
and how it fits the theme;
- Name of presenter(s), affiliation, telephone and email
coordinates of each presenter; and,
- The official language of delivery of the presentation (may
be either English or French but Federal Government presenters
must submit their presentation slides and handouts in both
official languages).
Presentations are expected to be 45 minutes
in length, followed by a 15 minute question and discussion period.
Concurrent sessions will be scheduled throughout the Workshop
in combination with several plenary sessions.
Abstracts will be assessed by the organizing
committee based on relevance and the expected value of the presentation
to participants. All submissions will be acknowledged and the
individuals or organizations presenting the most promising proposals
will be contacted to finalize arrangements for delivery of their
presentations.
If a draft or final version of the presentation
is already available, please attach a copy of this material and
identify, if applicable, when and where it was last presented.
Submissions will be retained in a database
for reference for future RPIC events unless applicants wish otherwise.
Also, RPIC intends to post presentation material delivered at
the Workshop on the RPIC website unless presenters wish otherwise.
Workshop presenters will not be paid for
their contribution, but will be exempt from the Workshop registration
fees.
