WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
The 2010 RPIC Federal Contaminated
Sites National Workshop will provide a forum
for federal managers and remediation specialists to learn
about technical, scientific and organizational innovations
and best practices for the management of contaminated sites.
The Workshop will offer a unique opportunity to meet and
exchange new ideas and information with colleagues and industry
representatives from across the country and abroad. The 2010
RPIC Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop is
the third in a series of biennial national workshops on federal
contaminated sites organized by RPIC’s Federal Contaminated
Sites Workshop Planning Committee.
The Real Property Institute of
Canada (RPIC) and the Contaminated Sites Management Working
Group (CSMWG) invite you to submit papers and presentations
on technologies and issues related to the remediation of federal
contaminated sites. Abstracts are encouraged in, but not limited
to the following topics:
- Assessment and Remediation in Special
Environments – aquatic sites, northern, protected areas,
mines
- Managing Environmental Projects – procurement,
communication, legal, closure strategies, life cycle
- Human Health Risk Assessment and
Risk Management
- Ecological Risk Assessment and Risk
Management
- Risk Communication Strategies
- Innovative Assessment and Remediation
Technologies
- Sustainability considerations in
remediation projects
- Adaptive Management – managing
uncertainty
- Liability Quantification and Reduction – long-term
planning and accounting, policy drivers, accounting practices
- Social and Economic Benefits from
Site Remediation – labour market, training and development,
new business development
ABSTRACTS – Due June
1, 2009
Abstracts should be no more than 500 words
and must include biographies for all presenters
(biography is not included in the word count). The abstract may
be submitted in English or French and must be submitted by June
1, 2009 to RPIC_FCSNW@thewillowgroup.com.
Note: One discounted delegate pass
(CDN$675 + GST = CDN$715) for the workshop will be made available
for each accepted paper. Additional presenters will need to
register at the full rate.
Guidelines for submitting abstracts:
- Title of Presentation.
- Name and affiliations of all presenters:
underline the name of the author who will be presenting the
paper.
- Complete mailing address, phone,
fax, and e-mail address of contact person or organizer.
- Biographies for all paper presenters.
- Type of presentation: paper or poster.
- Theme/stream addressed by your presentation.
- Language of presentation.
If you do not receive a confirmation email
within seven business days of submitting your abstract, please
contact RPIC_FCSNW@thewillowgroup.com.
Papers will be selected for inclusion in
the preliminary program on the basis of a peer review by a panel
of experts. Authors will be notified of acceptance by June
30, 2009.
FINAL PAPERS – Due October
15, 2009
Papers must be submitted by October 15,
2009 for review by subject experts. Authors of accepted papers
must revise their papers as required by the reviewers. Revised
papers are to be submitted by e-mail by November 30,
2009 and must be accompanied by copyright waivers signed
by all authors listed on the final paper (faxed to 613.729.6206).
Papers missing copyright waivers cannot be presented at the National
Workshop nor published in the final proceedings. The official
workshop proceedings will be distributed to all paid registrants
at the National Workshop.
International authors travelling from abroad
may be entitled to limited financial support and are encouraged
to inquire at RPIC_FCSNW@thewillowgroup.com for
further details.
OFFICIAL LANGUAGES
Initial abstracts may be submitted in English
or French. All final abstracts and papers crediting federal government
employee authors must be submitted in English and French. The
translation may follow the revised final version, but must be
submitted by December 31, 2009.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee that final papers and translations submitted
after the deadlines above will be included in proceedings distributed to delegates
at the Workshop. Proceedings will also be posted on the Workshop website following
the event.
