22nd Annual Real Property National
Workshop
November 24-26, 2009
REAL PROPERTY IN REAL TIME
The Real Property Institute of Canada (RPIC)
invite you to the 2009 Real Property National Workshop from November
24-26, 2009 at the Palais du Congrès in Gatineau, Quebec.
The RPIC National Workshop is the highlight
of Federal Real Property Week (November 23-27, 2009) whose objective
is to increase awareness of the importance of real property in
support of the federal government’s plans and priorities.
Last year’s National Workshop theme
of “Building on Performance” set
the stage for a year of immediacy and urgency where the focus
is on stimulating Canada’s economy in response to the global
crisis. Programs like Canada’s Economic Action Plan provide
hundreds of millions of dollars of investment over a fixed term
and this presents the community with tremendous opportunity and
challenges. At the same time, several major departments are responding
to unprecedented investment in real property outside of economic
stimulus funding.
Of course it is not a free-for-all. The
Government of Canada has introduced a new expenditure management
system and a key pillar of this system is the ongoing assessment
of all direct program spending, known as strategic reviews. These
reviews will place a premium on a close alignment between program
spending and government priorities. This is a time for the real
property community to work together to not only protect its current
funding, but to present a compelling and consistent case that
real property should be the recipient of reallocated resources.
This year’s theme is “Real
Property in Real Time”. The theme creates an
opportunity for the real property community to: unite and take
stock of what is working; assess how our people are coping;
determine what are the leading tools and approaches to help
us move forward; and, to learn how to best navigate these challenging
times.
The National Workshop will begin with the
Professional Development Day on Tuesday, November 24 and will
offer practical, timely and substantive opportunities to build
your professional toolkit.
Then comes the two-day Symposium (Wednesday,
November 25 and Thursday, November 26) which will offer compelling
keynote speakers and dynamic, informative and interactive sessions
structured along four streams supporting the “Real Property
in Real Time” theme:
Stream 1: Our
Greatest Asset: The Real Property People
Stream 2: Project Management Excellence
Stream 3: Built for Speed: Tools for Success
Stream 4: Housing World-Class Science: Modernizing Federal
Laboratories
This year’s workshop will be held
at the Palais du Congrès in Gatineau, Quebec, just down
the street from the beautiful Canadian Museum of Civilization
and its Great Hall which will play host to the RPIC Awards Gala.
We encourage you to enhance your team's professional development
by attending and contributing to this event.
We look forward to collaborating with our
real property colleagues from all disciplines and levels of governments,
as well as our private sector partners who play a significant
role in increasing our effectiveness.
Reserve these dates now, and be sure to
bookmark the RPIC website (www.rpic-ibic.ca) for up-to-date information
as the program develops.
