Steven Morgan, Office
of the Auditor General of Canada
This presentation will provide an overview
of what the Office of the Auditor General
of Canada (OAG) found in the follow-up
audit of the management of federal contaminated
sites.
In this audit, the OAG examined progress
made by Fisheries and Oceans Canada,
the Department of National Defence, Environment
Canada, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada,
the Treasury Board of Canada, Secretariat
and Transport Canada in implementing
selected recommendations and addressing
key observations made in prior audits
with respect to managing selected aspects
of federal contaminated sites. The audit
included progress to: provide central
leadership; determine and report on costs;
make a firm commitment and an action
plan; and, identify and assess known
contaminated sites under their responsibility.
The OAG also examined the status of regulations
that Environment Canada was developing
that would help reduce contamination
caused from spills or leaks from petroleum
storage tanks.
