Since 1990, the federal government has employed over 3,000 students each year under these programs. In partnership with participating academic institutions, the federal public service of Canada plays an important role in providing post-secondary students with the relevant and practical work experience they need to fulfil the requirements of their academic program.

The Career Assignment Program (CAP) is a federal Public Service leadership development program that recruits individuals from within the public service who have demonstrated executive potential. The goal of the program is to accelerate leadership development and advancement within the Public Service. Over a three-year period, participants can expect to attain management and leadership experience that will prepare them to perform successfully at pre-executive and executive levels. Today’s program places significant emphasis on developing executive level competencies by providing hands-on work experience through assignments with organizations and through an educational component that complement and enhances the experience acquired on the job.

Post-Secondary Recruitment (PSR)
http://jobs-emplois.gc.ca/psr-rp/index-eng.htm

The Post-Secondary Recruitment Program (PSR) seeks post-secondary graduates who have the qualifications needed to fill entry-level positions in federal government organizations. Career choices may be advertised throughout the year by means of recruitment campaigns. The campaigns generally begin in the fall and winter. While the career choices are targeted towards specific job opportunities, the general inventory is non-specific and is open to university students of all fields of study. It is a quick way for managers to fill positions. Job opportunities vary with the needs of government organizations.
