The federal public service of Canada continues
to be the nation's largest single employer of students enrolled
in Post-secondary Co-op/Internship Programs. Since 1990, the
federal government has employed over 3,000 students each year
under these programs. In partnership with participating academic
institutions, the federal public service of Canada plays an important
role in providing post-secondary students with the relevant and
practical work experience they need to fulfil the requirements
of their academic program.

The Management Trainee Program (MTP) is
part of the public service effort to enhance the capacity of
its leaders to deal with the challenges facing Canada and to
maintain a world-class public service. It focuses on the development
of entry-level candidates who have demonstrated their potential
to become managers and future leaders through a rigorous selection
process launched and managed by the Canada Public Service Agency
(CPSA).

The Accelerated Economist Training Program
(AETP) provides high-caliber students with exposure to a variety
of policy issues, experience in analyzing sector responsibilities,
and a broad view of the role, mandate, and modus operandi of
various departments and agencies in the federal government. The
AETP provides four six-month assignments at host departments
with economic and public policy sector responsibilities. Three
assignments are with central agencies: Treasury Board Secretariat;
Department of Finance; and Privy Council Office. A fourth assignment
takes place in a line department.

www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/chro-dprh/index-eng.asp
The Career Assignment Program (CAP) is
a federal Public Service leadership development program that
recruits individuals from within the public service who have
demonstrated executive potential. The goal of the program is
to accelerate leadership development and advancement within the
Public Service. Over a three-year period, participants can expect
to attain management and leadership experience that will prepare
them to perform successfully at pre-executive and executive levels.
Today’s program places significant emphasis on developing
executive level competencies by providing hands-on work experience
through assignments with organizations and through an educational
component that complement and enhances the experience acquired
on the job.
Post-Secondary Recruitment (PSR)
http://jobs-emplois.gc.ca/psr-rp/index-eng.htm
The Post-Secondary Recruitment Program
(PSR) seeks post-secondary graduates who have the qualifications
needed to fill entry-level positions in federal government organizations.
Career choices may be advertised throughout the year by means
of recruitment campaigns. The campaigns generally begin in the
fall and winter. While the career choices are targeted towards
specific job opportunities, the general inventory is non-specific
and is open to university students of all fields of study. It
is a quick way for managers to fill positions. Job opportunities
vary with the needs of government organizations.
