An Update from the President
Dear RPIC Members,
In March 2020, business as usual for the Real Property Institute of Canada (RPIC) ground to a halt due to Covid-19. The pandemic and resultant government legislation banning mass gatherings made it impossible to hold our events. As a result, our Marine Infrastructure and Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshops, scheduled for April in St. John’s and June in Quebec City respectively, were initially postponed to 2021.
As the scope and duration of the pandemic’s impact has become clearer, RPIC has adjusted its response. The in-person Marine Infrastructure and Federal Contaminated Sites workshops have been cancelled and we are pivoting our business model to provide online, virtual training programs until such time as we may safely return to offering live, in-person workshops.
We have begun exploring how we could replace the Real Property National Workshop with online training, still targeting delivery in November or possibly December 2020. A revised, more tightly focused Call for Presentations was issued, with a August 14, 2020 deadline for submissions. For full details and to submit an abstract, please visit the Workshop webpage (http://www.rpic-ibic.ca/en/events/real-property-rp-national-workshop/real-property-rp-national-workshop-2020-n/real-property-rp-national-workshop-2020-n-call-for-presentations).
In addition to the work on upcoming virtual workshops, RPIC is offering FREE webinars. The next session is scheduled for September 1 and is focused on Asset Management: A better Plan B! If you missed the last webinar, Return to Work: Work the data!, the recording is available at http://rpic-ibic.ca/en/events/speaker-series/virtual-events.
RPIC is rising to the challenges presented by Covid-19 and is pushing forward to continue providing timely and relevant training opportunities to our community. Our Mission remains unchanged:
“To foster and enable professional development, knowledge exchange and lifelong learning across the federal government real property community.”
As a volunteer-driven organization, we are profoundly grateful to the many individuals on the RPIC Board and its committees who, along with our dedicated staff, are steering RPIC through this vital transition! We are developing content and building capacity to continue to serve you with valuable learning opportunities.
As future offerings become available, we will provide information through our website and we will reach out through email, social media and other means to keep you informed. We always appreciate feedback and comments through our various platforms as this allows us to better understand your training needs. We hope you will continue to look to RPIC as a trusted, reliable source of real property related training.
Real Property Institute of Canada
A high-performing federal real property community that effectively shares knowledge to modernize and improve its professional practices..
