The Annual RPIC Awards were presented
at the Gala Dinner at the Museum of Civilization on Wednesday,
November 27. The event, part of the program for the Federal
Real Property Week and the 21st National Workshop, was attended
by close to 300 guests.
Minister Christian Paradis, PWGSC,
opened the evening with the announcement of the launch
of the Intelligent Buildings
project. This prototype business model will monitor and
control mechanical, heating and lighting systems in Government
of
Canada buildings. This prototype, a proof of concept, will
incorporate new technology into the existing automated
systems of two Government of Canada facilities. If successful,
the
new technology could reduce the annual energy costs of
certain federal buildings by up to 20 percent.
The RPIC Awards presentation
celebrated and acknowledged the contributions made throughout
the year that set a high
standard and advanced the real property community through
innovation, achievement, quality, and leadership. Click

RPIC would like
to congratulate and thank all the winners for their contributions
to the real property community in
the past year.
The Federal Real Property Week wrapped
up with the inaugural ADM Panel that offered a discussion
among Gavin
Liddy (Acting
Assistant Secretary – Government Operations, Treasury
Board of Canada, Secretariat), John McBain (Associate Assistant
Deputy Minister – Real Property Branch, PWGSC), Scott
Stevenson (Assistant Deputy Minister – Infrastructure
and Environment, National Defence) and moderated by Dr. Gordon
McIvor (Vice President, Strategic Acquisitions, Public and
Government Affairs, Canada Lands Company). An energetic and
dynamic discussion was structured around the real property
community staying relevant and responsive to evolving government
priorities; how real property can be more of a strategic
partner; how to ensure that real property resources are directed
to retaining the integrity of the assets; ways to encourage
departments to work collaboratively to achieve common objectives;
and, how the real property community can sustain a healthy
community. Real property assets possess the potential
to lead the country to a stronger economic and fiscal position.
In
collaboration
with RPIC’s ADM network of Gavin Liddy, John McBain,
Gordon McIvor and RPIC’s 2010 ADM Champion Scott
Stevenson, RPIC will continue to encourage and provide
opportunities
for real property practitioners to play a fundamental and
strategic role in support of the federal government’s
programs and services.
RPIC would like to express a heartfelt
thank you to all the 2009 sponsors without whom the Federal
Real Property
Week
and RPIC’s 21st Annual National Workshop could not
have succeeded.
